The End? Yeah, right.

I’m closer to the end…SORT OF.

I found out that I messed up somewhere and doubled a chapter, so instead of being at 42k or so, I actually ended up under 40k.

Yay. Oh. No, wait. NOT YAY.

But now, I’m at the point in the process where it’s all about fine tooth combing. By that, I mean looking at each and every sentence and scene one tiny bit at a time.

It’s taken me two weeks to deal with two chapters.

I’m also at the point where I ABSOLUTELY HATE this story and want to club my characters like baby seals.

But I love it, too. I can’t wait to get back on it.

Sort of. I’m taking it slow. It’s a little bit more difficult…but it’s a little easier.

Yeah, that doesn’t make any sense.

I at least have a better handle on things. It’s easier to flesh the story out a bit better, now that I know what’s going on. I just need to step back a tiny bit and not obsess and flip out.

So I’m going slowly. Taking larger breaks. Hopefully I’ll get this mess done before the end of the year. I’m not exactly sure if this one is something I can send to publishers, or if this is something I should take care of on my own. Bless Book Country for now having a self-publishing section on their site now. A hundred bucks will get me digitally published.

That is GREAT news. Except for the fact that I have ZERO bucks, LOL.
That being said, I DO have a Donation button on the blog here, so if anyone is interested in helping, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. But this time of year is crazy, so don’t worry too much about it!

This month wasn’t too terribly different from the rest of the months I’ve been working on this story. I just got a lot more done, I think. Oh, maybe not.

BUT BUT BUT I DID get a title out of this month, thanks to my buddy @RockStartist:

Cracks in the Sidewalk

Now. I just have to actually FINISH THIS NONSENSE so I can move on. Or go BACK and work on one of the four projects I abandoned for this one.

Wish me luck!

NaNoWriMo Day @#–Middle of the Night Busy Work: Captain’s Log

I forgot to check in after the situation the other day.

I’m fine.

APPARENTLY, dude that lives upstairs and across–the one who hits on me constantly–was involved in some sort of…domestic situation the led to him eluding arrest and locking himself in his apartment and the cops were called.

All of them. And really cute ones came to evacuate me. I got to sit in the back of a cop car while it all went down. It was crazy.

It bothers me a little that I wasn’t feeling scared. I was scared enough to cease all movements and turn out all the lights. And make a sandwich. It was a really good sandwich.

I was cooking a baked potato when they came to evacuate me. They barely gave me time to turn off the oven before hustling me out.

I was digressing.

I think I’ll digress further and update the Nano project, which now has an actual, factual title: Cracks in the Sidewalk.

And now I’m at the point where I’m going thru the thing line by line, wanting more, yet hating it at the same time.

I’ve been on Chapter One for three days. I’m just now at page 7/12.

Oh. OH OH OH. AND I figured out that I’m even further under 50k than I thought. I accidentally doubled a chapter somewhere. So now I’m just under 40k. And am not too much closer to figuring out what else to throw in.

I do not usually have this problem. I’m highly prolific. The first story that I finished is way over 100k. Like, way. So this is really different, not being able to throw more words up.

There’s a Situation

And I’m not talking about the Oompa Loompa with abs from Jersey Shore.

The cops are here. Wait. Well…they WERE. I don’t see any lights flashing like just a few minutes ago. I don’t hear anything outside.

Wait. What was that? WHO IS COMING DOWN THE STAIRS???

Ok, so here’s the deal. I think someone was trying to elude arrest, and hole up in his apartment. There was pounding. I thought some folks were having a fight.

And then the cops are there. Then they are using a bull horn.

I’m trying to clean my house, but am terrified to move. Ok, I wasn’t too terrified to make a sandwich a few minutes ago, but I figure the quieter I am, the better. Running the vacuum would only exacerbate things, yes?

So I’m sitting here, updating Facebook, Tweeting, blogging. Just in case something crazy happens. I don’t know what is happening NOW, but I have been in this situation for an hour…

Oh. I don’t see cars and lights b/c they are probably agitating dude upstairs. But the cops are still here, still trying to get the dude to come out.

Ok, yeah. Still terrified. If there are any new developments…I’ll let you know…

NaNoWriMo Day Something– The Halfway Mark: Captain’s Log

Ok. I’m at the point where I’m starting to hate my characters and resent the time I’ve spent on them.

Apparently that’s a good thing.

It’s a good thing that I’m nearly blind from reading this thing over and over and over and over.

Rewrite is done, btw.

And I’m still only at 43k. I have no idea what else to say.

But I’ll start dissecting it again tomorrow.

I will be fresh. I will be energized. And I’ll be reading Neil Gaiman’s blog post about NaNoWriMo before I begin.

It was funny. I was talking to a Twitter buddy about this very thing when he posted the link on Twitter.

I feel so much better now. Thanks, Neil!

NaNoWriMo Day 13–I’m Still Here: Captain’s Log

Oh, that’s funny. “Captain’s Log.” I’m watching the new Star Trek movie. I should be wearing a dress and holding a beer right now.

Sorry. Different train of thought.

I’m here. Sorry I skipped a few posts, but after I finished, I took a day off, and then started in on rewrite 3. I’m on Chapter Six so far. I’ve actually added stuff to make the story better. I hope the changes flow. They’d better flow. I’d be pissed if it was disjointed.

But what do I know? Unless I’m really dissecting a sentence under a microscope(like I’m doing in rw3), it’s all disjointed to me.

I blame the speed reading class my fifth grade teacher put me in. I read entirely too fast, picking up on major details, missing others…I get the jist, but I don’t enjoy the journey.

It’s a blessing AND a curse. It means I can read an entire book (think Deathly Hallows) and then start in on another and watch the movie before another person has finished reading the first book.
It also means I don’t take my time to soak everything in. My brain feels like it’s a race to the finish and get ahead.

Speed reading ruins lives.

Before I go, I’d just like to congratulate the nephew and his wife on their new daughter. (Prayers for them, please).

& Happy Birthday to my dad. 11/13/33-5/25/05

NaNoWriMo Day 10–El Fin: Captain’s Log/I’m Done, Bitches!

HAHAHAHHAHAHA! Ten days in and I’m DONE!!! HELL YEAH!!!

Yeah, right.

Five minutes ago, I finished Chapter 17. That was The End.

The End of draft 2.

So that means I should be getting some feedback on the story (hint, hint)so that I know what I need to be doing next.

So, Ch 17 ended up 8 pages, 2039 words. It had been 7 pages, 1930 words.

Grand total of words and pages so far:

160 pages, 42445 words.

Ok. I’ve never been accused of brevity, but I’m 7500 words shy of my goal. Is this ok? Do I need to go ahead and beef it up a little?

Yeah. Done, my ass.

NaNoWriMo Day 9–Nonsense: Captain’s Log

So I am currently working on the final chapter. I totally thought rewrites would take way more time. That must mean I’m missing something.

But I guess that’s what the third draft is for.

Everything so far has been posted on Book Country, if you are available for consultation.

The Run Down:

Ch 15 went from 5 pages to 9, from 1409 words to 2452.
Ch 16 was 7 pages, 1947 words, and is now 8 pages and 2045 words.

Chapter 17 is coming along quite well. I can already see where things need to be shifted a little.

I haven’t been able to concentrate on anything but this story lately. Losing sleep, starting to get sick, can’t work on anything other than this piece that I’ve been working on since August 1.

I must be doing something right.
