I can see you thinking “But Samantha, there’s only one movie title in your blog title. What’s up with that?”
Well, pretty much every movie I post for Double Feature Saturday has a twin. A fraternal twin, that is, that is definitely worth watching.
First up is Jane Austen’s Persuasion. As with most any Jane Austen story, there is a brave heroine with a nutty or dysfunctional family. Persuasion is no different. Anne Elliot is the daughter of a financially troubled and pompous aristocrat and the sister of a hypochondriac and a snob, who, in her younger years, was persuaded by a family friend to turn down the proposal of her love, Frederick Wentworth, because he wasn’t rich enough in the eyes of society. One day, after Anne’s life is turned upside down by her father’s financial woes, Frederick shows back up, now Captain Wentworth, sending Anne into a bit of a tailspin.
The 1995 version stars Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds as Anne and the good Captain.

The 2007 version stars Sally Hawkins and the yummy Rupert Penry-Jones.
